The ancient theatre of Phthiotic Thebes revives

The students and the teachers of the 2nd Junior High School of Almyros, participating in the cultural program with the title “Learning about ancient theatres” are performing “Helen” of Evripidis at the ancient theatre of Phthiotic Thebes, on Friday 11th May 2012. The ancient theatre of Phthiotic Thebes was constructed of carved parallelepiped volcanic stones and is located in central Greece. With a maximum capacity of 3,000 spectators, the theatre was used for ancient drama, musical contests and, in the Roman period, wild beast fights and gladiatorial games. The theatre was closed after the Roman period. The students and their teachers have “adopted” the theatre wanting to revive it in order to find sponsors for its restoration.
